Juan Carlos Gallo - CEO AR Miami

Juan Carlos Gallo – Founder & Creative Director, AR Miami

Juan Carlos Gallo is the founder of AR Miami and the creative force behind its mission to transform cities into living canvases using augmented reality. With a background that bridges art, technology, and immersive storytelling, Juan developed AR Miami as a platform where culture, history, and creativity intersect—layered into the streets people walk every day.

Drawing on his experience in multimedia production, spatial computing, and global travel, Juan has spent the last three years building AR Miami from the ground up. His vision: to make augmented reality accessible, meaningful, and human, without needing expensive headsets or future hardware. Just a phone and a walkable neighborhood.

In addition to his technical work, Juan is an artist, filmmaker, and explorer of ancient civilizations. His curiosity about the hidden layers of reality—both digital and historical—fuels much of the storytelling in AR Miami. Whether showcasing a holographic artist in Wynwood or revealing a forgotten moment from Coral Gables' past, Juan sees AR not just as a tool, but as a new form of public art.

Juan is also the founder of Experience AR, a creative tech studio specializing in immersive experiences, and has collaborated with institutions, collectives, and city governments to reimagine how people engage with their environments. He believes the future of urban space isn’t just physical or digital—it’s both.

Story on the AR mural in Wynwood: “Miami Canary In The Coal Mine (Sea Level Rise)”

Augmented Reality Mural, February 2018

Located at 1800 N Miami Ave in Miami, FL

I was the lead AR Designer / Developer for the Augmented reality mural.

“Miami is indeed a ‘canary in the coal mine’ with respect to the effects of sea level rise. I love this city very much, lived here most of my life, so it is an honor to be involved in a project to raise awareness on this issue by mixing augmented reality with mural art. We owe it to future generations to take action now while there is still time,” said Juan Carlos Gallo, a digital designer for Miami Murals. “Our local government also recognizes this, so there’s an opportunity for the people and the government to come together.”

Wynwood AR Mural "Anthropocene Extinction"

Augmented Reality Mural, December 2018 Wynwood, Miami.

I was the lead AR Designer / Developer for the Augmented reality mural.

This mural used to be located at 299 NW 25th St, Wynwood, Miami. It has been vandalized and then painted over. May it rest in peace.

Since the dawn of civilization, humanity has caused the loss of 83% of all wild mammals and half of plants. This mural raises awareness for the Mass Extinction of Biodiversity that is happening today because of human activity including deforestation, pollution, hunting and overfishing. Everyday new species go extinct, yet most of us remain unaware, caught up in the other news and events that distract us daily instead of the big picture of Life. The mural depicts a local lens to the biodiversity issue by featuring 20 species found in Florida’s wildlife. Native, invasive and endangered species are shown together, representing how all of us must find harmony inhabiting the same space. Furthermore the mural is placed in the context of Sea Level Rise that will displace many humans and animals who live here. South Florida faces 2 to 3 feet of sea level rise by 2050 and far more dire circumstances by the end of the century if adequate climate action is not taken.

We welcome you to visit our pilot augmented reality mural. This mural shows Miami’s vibrant colors, materialism and party culture as a facade we don. A closer look reveals warning signs like the looming sea level line and canary which illustrate our ignorance to the impending threat which faces Miami: climate change. Through an AR experience, participants will be able to see two alternate futures for Miami. Our future is dependent on the choice we make between "Make No Change" and "Be The Change"
