Another city.
A new layer of discovery.
Built in the same spirit as AR Miami, AR Asheville connects digital experiences with local culture, creative spaces, and the places people explore.
Rooted in place.
Connected by possibility.
AR Asheville adapts the spatial platform logic developed through AR Miami to a walkable, community-centered mountain city. Where AR Miami operates at large metropolitan and neighborhood scales, AR Asheville is designed for an intimate downtown ecosystem: connecting local stories, historic landmarks, independent businesses, and creative venues through a warm, approachable augmented reality layer.
The physical city remains unaltered, while digital media adds context, history, and narrative discovery to everyday streets.
Local stories, brought into the landscape.
Designed to reveal local history and creative voices through the physical city itself, AR Asheville turns everyday walks into self-guided cultural explorations. Rather than relying on separate guides or static plaques, visitors encounter place-based media anchored directly to landmarks, streets, and public spaces.
Artists & Community Voices
Outdoor digital installations give local artists and community voices presence throughout the city. Galleries placed in public parks can highlight regional creators while guiding visitors toward studios, murals, and cultural events throughout downtown.
Landmarks & History
Historical walking routes and location-based guides use hologram-style media, readable text panels, and spatial signage to bring key Asheville locations to life, presenting architectural history and cultural heritage right where it happened.
Cultural Routes & Exploration
Themed routes connect one part of the city to another. Visitors can follow curated walking paths exploring public art, historic architecture, and local heritage, with floating AR beacons guiding the way between stops.
Citywide discovery routes, community galleries, and landmark guides represent the broader development roadmap for AR Asheville, expanding outward from deployed venue activations.
Step inside Third Room.
Third Room serves as the premier indoor activation within the AR Asheville ecosystem. Inside the venue, physical rooms transform into an interactive world where guests discover room-specific AR environments, meet hologram guides, tap interactive characters, and explore an elemental quest.
The activation demonstrates how modular AR prefabs and structured content allow indoor venues to host engaging seasonal programming without altering their physical architecture.
More ways to discover local places.
A central goal of AR Asheville is supporting local commerce and independent venues by connecting pedestrian discovery directly to neighborhood storefronts. Planned features explore how store markers and digital passport journeys can reward visitors for exploring local spots.
Storefront Markers & Digital Hubs
Participating shops and cafes can feature storefront markers that serve as doorways into that location's AR layer. Scanning a marker can reveal a welcoming host, store hours, seasonal specialties, or custom interactive experiences tailored to the business.
Passport Journeys & Community Rewards
Designed to gamify downtown exploration, the planned passport system allows visitors to collect digital stamps at participating locations. Completing curated routes or neighborhood trails encourages foot traffic across independent districts.
Please note: Business hub markers, digital passport collection, and reward redemptions are currently in active design and platform development. Active commercial offers and citywide partner integrations will launch in future rollout phases.
